Earlier this week, Donald Trump announced that Steve Bannon – a bigot supported by the KKK and the American Nazi Party – would be his Chief Strategist in the White House. This moment is a moral test for all of us, including the business community.
Today, Senate Banking Committee Ranking Member Sherrod Brown, House Financial Services Committee Ranking Member Maxine Waters, Rep. Keith Ellison and I wrote to financial services industry leaders, urging them to condemn Bannon’s appointment. Racism, sexism, anti-Semitism, and bigotry is bad for our country and it is bad for business. What message will it send to their customers and employees if they remain silent?
“As leaders in the business community, you have a moral obligation to speak out against this appointment as contrary to the values of this country and to the values of your industry. We urge you to condemn this appointment immediately and without reservation.”
